Match Summary:- Eastbourne Borough started the 2006/2007 season with a hard fought but ultimately deserved victory at home to an un-compromising Yeading side. The Sports management duo of Garry Wilson and Nick Greenwood picked an attacking team with the inclusion of Pat Harding and Matt Crabb as wide men.
Yeading, however, dominated the early exchanges and Lee Hook was forced to turn an early effort around the post for a corner. Yeading created further opportunities in the first 20 minutes and Hook saved well at the feet of Marvin Morgan on the 20 minute mark.
Boro were enjoying passages of possession but the final ball was proving difficult as the wind and rain swept around the Priory Lane ground. On 26 minutes a Crabb cross was delivered into the Yeading area and Allan Tait was floored by the advancing keeper. The referee appeared to indicate a penalty but the linesman had flagged earlier for offside against Tait.
The game continued with neither side dominating. Goddard looped the ball onto the Boro bar on 32 minutes and The Sports created well worked chances for Crabb and Smart before the half-time whistle.
Neither side made substitutions at half time and as the weather settled Boro started to dominate the match. A strong run by Tait into the Yeading area saw him pulled down by Goddard. Ramsay stepped up to take the penalty but he shot high over the bar.
Boro continued to look the stronger side but Yeading almost took the lead when a Goulding header hit the Boro post after a fine move.
The deadlock was finally broken on 75 minutes as Matt Crabb composed himself and fired low past Preddie after an excellent move involving Matt Smart. Matt Crabb then extended the lead and put the game beyond Yeading when he finished another fine move. Jay Lovett advanced down the right hand side and fed Ramsay. He played a 1-2 with Crabb and the number 11 again showed a clear head in front of goal to seal the win.
