Match Summary:-
Eastbourne Borough and Welling United fought out a competitive 0-0 draw at Priory Lane on a balmy September evening.

Boro had early opportunities to take the lead through Scott Ramsay and Jay Lovett but the visitors were playing controlled football at a high tempo to deny the home side time on the ball. The best opportunity of the half for Boro arrived on 24 minutes when Jiri Dohnal clipped a ball into the box to Andy Atkin. Atkin deceived The Wings defence with a neat turn but his shot was high over the bar from 6 yards out. 3 minutes later the visitors themselves had an excellent chance. Leon Solomon delivered a cross-come-shot from wide left that required Lee Hook to tip away. The ball dropped to a Welling striker on the 6 yard box but his shot was weak and Hook saved. The Boro defence again showed their determination with an well timed tackle by Darren Baker on the edge of the penalty area to deny a clear scoring opportunity.

The second half saw early chances for Welling go begging with captain Chris Moore heading over from a corner just after the break. Mid way through the half Matt Smart and Victor Dolista came on for Boro but Jay Lovett caught the eye on 71 minutes with a strong run but his shot was deflected and gathered easily. Welling continued to threaten Hooks goal and the Boro defence really earned their money with organised and strong defence of their clean sheet, Darren Baker outstanding. The visitors had an excellent chance to claim all 3 points on 78 minutes when a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box picked out a Welling head who lifted the ball over the bar rather than testing Lee Hook. The rest of the game was played out with no real clear opportunity for either side. 0-0 the final score.
