Match Summary:-
Eastbourne Borough traveled to Wiltshire to face the league leaders, and play their 1st game in 2 and a 1/2 weeks. The club arrived at Salisbury to find a pitch in good condition considering recent weather, a fine bright day, and a home crowd in fine voice packing into 2 sides of a stadium undergoing development.

Ben Austin was serving a suspension so the ever flexible Jay Lovett moved to right-back and Pat Harding occupied the right midfield berth.

The home side were on the attack first and debutante Marvin Brown had an early shot on target, the goal bound effort blocked by a visiting defender. Boro's 1st attack of the match saw Adam Wilde deliver a left wing cross that Ryan Clarke gathered and set his side away on the break. The ball was supplied to Brown who cooly lobbed Lee Hook from 18 yards to open both the scoring and his account for 'The Whites' on 4 minutes.

This awoke Boro and 2 minutes later a fantastic free-kick from Wilde on the right flew across the face of the goal. Andy Atkin stretched to reach but his diving header was just short and an early chance to equalise was gone.  A long throw on 16 minutes provided chances for Scott Ramsay and Atkin as Salisbury failed to clear but neither could find the net. After a bright start Brown appeared to become less threatening but Paul Sales was a constant strong presence up front. His strength however was matched by Darren Baker and Marc Pullan who restricted Sales to playing mostly with his back to goal.

On 26 minutes Harding received a quick free-kick and as the ball bounced kindly for him his early strike was deflected into Clarkes arms, but a free-kick would lead to Boro's equaliser. Neil Jenkins was fouled in the left-back position and the ball was delivered to Ramsay in the left-wing channel. His headed flick found Paul Armstrong breaking to the edge of the box and his 1st time lobbed shot sailed over the keeper for the sides opening goal. 1-1.

Boro continued to dominate and Wilde had an opportunity on 35 minutes to open his account for the club but his left foot volley was across the face of the goal, and just before the break Atkin was narrowly beaten to the well paced through ball by Clarke who cleared.

Half-time brought no changes and Salisbury had an early chance to regain the lead but Timothy Bond could not force the ball home from 2 yards. Matt Smart was very industrious all afternoon and his through ball to Ramsay on 69 minutes was helped on it's way to Atkin. Andy showed his customary strength on the ball, cut inside and shot. Unfortunately the effort was high but Boro were still making most of the running. A ball played into 'The Whites' penalty area was adjudged to be handled by a home defender and Boro were awarded a penalty. Ramsay smashed the ball home to take a deserved lead on 73 minutes.

Before the restart Salisbury made the substitution they were planning prior to the penalty but now intending to rescue the game rather than push on to win. The home side now began to dominate territorially and with the ball. Jonathan Bass unleashed a fierce low drive from a cleared corner that produced an excellent save from Hook low to his right. Boro had a couple of chances on the break, revolving around the excellent Atkin, but although the home side pushed for an equaliser the lead was never truly in doubt. After a full 5 minutes of injury time the referee blew the final whistle and Eastbourne Borough had completed a fine double over an excellent side chasing promotion to the Nationwide Conference. Despite the enforced break the team had looked fit, competitive and again a solid back 5 had provided the platform for an excellent result.
