Match Summary:-
The Sports travelled to south coast neighbours Hastings United looking to progress in the Sussex Senior Cup. Credit must be given to the Hastings pitch and ground staff as there was general surprise and delight that the fixture was able to go ahead after recent prolonged heavy rain.

There was an early half-chance for 'The Sports' as a ball chipped into the Hastings penalty area was gathered by Lee Worgan as Matt Smart closed in, and Boro continued the early pressure with a series of excellent crosses and free-kicks delivered by Adam Wilde, who was to have an effective evening. Pat Harding and Scott Ramsay combined well on several occasions in the 1st half, mostly providing opportunities for Harding, but the Hastings defence worked hard to close down shooting opportunities and efforts were either blocked or forced wide of the target. Harding latched onto an excellent through ball on 15 minutes to the right hand side of the penalty area but the advancing Worgan forced the Boro striker wide and his effort from a difficult angle was cleared for a corner. Lee Hook was given a yellow card on 17 minutes for handling outside the area and the free-kick was driven against the wall by Hastings. 6 minutes later came Uniteds best effort of the half. A strong run down the right flank was delivered low and hard across the 6 yard box. Striker and defender met the ball together and the ball spilled out to a pleased Boro keeper to gather. Harding had a further half-chance following a mix up between Rose and Worgan but Whyborne blocked the goal bound effort. Half-time score 0-0.

Boro came out strongly in the 2nd half and Ramsay forced an early corner when his shot from a tight angle was saved by Worgan. Hastings were still in the game and a break and excellent cross from the right found Sam Adams with only Hook to beat to opening the scoring. His shot was tame, however, and the Boro keeper was able to save easily, the shot direct at him. Wilde had an excellent chance to score when a quickly taken free-kick saw him bearing in on the Hastings goal. His shot was strong but Worgan again made an excellent save forcing the ball over the bar for a corner. The corner was delivered and as United failed to clear Andy Atkins header was just wide of the left hand post. Kevin Rose was sent off for his 2nd yellow card after 60 minutes and from this point it was all Boro. Substitute Matt Crabb was challenged from behind when setting himself to shoot but no penalty was awarded.

'The Sports' opened the scoring after 64 minutes when a clever chipped cross into the 6 yard box from Wilde found Ramsay who did well to angle his header into the bottom right corner of the goal, 1-0 Boro. Wilde and Ramsay again combined for Boro's 2nd, but this time there was a degree of good fortune. Wilde played the ball through for Ramsay but James Sims looked favourite to collect. Under pressure he allowed Ramsay to receive the ball and Scott ran on to drive the ball past the helpless Worgan.

Crabb challenged Worgan on the edge of the 18 yard box after 81 minutes and as Hastings failed to clear a shot from the left side of the penalty area was parried high by Worgan only for the ball to reach Ramsay at the far post to complete his hat-trick with a close range header. Wilde had not finished the night as provider and 3 minutes from the end he delivered a low ball across the area for Crabb to strike, saved by Worgan again, but a similar cross, again from Wilde, was not dealt with moments later and Crabb smashed the ball home from the edge of the 18 yard box to finish a most satisfactory night for Eastbourne Borough. Final score 4-0.
