Match Summary:-
Borough concluded their pre-season campaign with an impressive victory over a strong Grays side. The full-time professionals dominated the opening fifteen minutes and impressed with quick movement and accurate passing play, as Borough struggled to come to terms. However, it was The Sports that took the lead on 17 minutes with a fine solo effort from Allan Tait. Picking the ball up just inside his own half, the former Crawley and Canvey striker carried it to within twenty yards of the Grays goal before cutting inside and rifling a magnificent strike past Ashley Bayes.

Grays responded as Lee Boylan headed against the bar, before getting the better of Marc Pullan and finishing clinically past Lee Hook to level the scores on 26 minutes. Borough regained the lead three minutes as Scott Ramsay converted a twice taken penalty after he had been upended by Adam Green in the Grays area.

Borough began the second half positively with a great move involving substitutes Duncan McArthur and Pat Harding, resulting in a good save from Bayes to deny Ramsay. A swift counter-attack from Grays deserved better than Michael Kightley's poor finish on 50 minutes, before McArthur went close for Borough a couple of minutes later.

Borough extended their lead on 55 minutes, following a strong run by Andy Atkin. The ball broke to Ramsay, who gave Bayes no chance with a first-time strike. The lively Aaron McLean was the biggest threat from Grays, and the England striker was foiled first by Jiri Dohnal on the far post, and then by Neil Jenkins as the visitors pressed. Boylan somehow failed to score from close range as his effort was cleared off the line, but pulled one back with a rather soft goal that beat Hook inside his far post on 84 minutes.

With Grays going all out for the equaliser the Borough keeper made a couple of fine stops in the final minute of the match, but Garry Wilson's side put the seal on a deserved victory deep into stoppage time when Victor Dolista beat Bayes at the second attempt, after Lee Newman's initial shot was blocked. The only downside was an injury to McArthur that forced him off after just twenty minutes on the pitch.
