Match Summary:-
Boro returned from Hampshire empty handed after a late strike took all 3 points for Farnborough Town.
The home side settled the quickest and The Sports only had an excellent Jay Lovett cross into the box that was dealt with by the Farnborough defenders to show in the first 15 minutes. The game was also being broken up by a multitude of free-kicks for challenges in the midfield area of the park. Stuart tuck was playing in his usual left back role with Neil Jenkins operating wide left. It was Tucky that produced the next opportunity for The Sports when his cross into the box was met by Scott Ramsay who hooked the ball on but unfortunately over the bar. Farnborough continued to dominate with several dangerous balls delivered into the box from wide positions, Lee Hook being called upon on 23 minutes to save from a Charles header. From this point Eastbourne got to grips with the game and Jay Lovett was denied a clear opportunity from a Neil Jenkins cross by some last ditch home defending. Jay turned provider moments later as his deep cross was met by Scott Ramsay with a fierce header that cannoned off the woodwork. The 1st half ended with penalty appeals at both ends but the scores level.
The Sports started the 2nd half strongly with opportunities for Matt Smart, an excellent Lovett cross just beyond Neil Jenkins and a goal ruled out for off-side for Allan Tait. After weathering these attacks Farnborough again began to produce some difficult crosses from wide areas and Lee Hook had to gather under pressure on more than 1 occasion. Scott Ramsay received the ball in the box and after controlling the difficult ball on his chest his powerful shot was only inches wide with many away fans convinced it had found the net. Farnborough came back into the game from this point and had several opportunities to open the scoring, including a 2nd penalty appeal. Then on 86 minutes a controversial corner was awarded to the home side. As Neil Jenkins cleared the ball behind he was caught in the face by a high boot. The referee waved away his protests and from the cross into the box The Sports failed to clear and Steve Hankin rifled the ball home through a packed 18 yard box.
Eastbourne Borough pressed in the last few minutes but failed to seriously test the home keeper. The final score remained 1-0.
