On a wet and very windy morning both sides struggled to come to terms with the conditions. Under the captaincy of H McCarthy Boro settled quickest and pushed forward playing the game mainly in the Rye half with Rye only occasionally relieving the pressure by delivering a long ball forward. Early Boro efforts on goal were dealt with easily by the Rye keeper. Rye used their height advantage in set pieces and caused Boro problems in front of goal but several chances went begging for the visitors. As the 1st half reached the 30 minute mark Reece Appleton picked up a loose ball just inside the Boro half and sprinted forward down the line, the tracking Rye defender doing well to force him wide. Appleton persevered and boxed in by the corner flag he turned and saw Rob Holbourn coming in from the left side. An excellent piece of skill allowed him to deliver a wicked waist height cross that was met by Holbourn's cheeky mid air back heel. 1-0 Boro.
After the goal the tempo rose and the half time whistle came just in time to give the players a break from the much faster game. The second half kicked off and the new tempo was maintained. Rye brought on substitutes with increased pace and this caused the Boro defence problems. If it were not for an excellent save by keeper Oliver Barton all would have been square. Rye's efforts were often wasted due to some poor accuracy in front of goal and 20 minutes into the second half Boro made their own substitutions, Brett Patton and Ethen Strevett replacing Micheal Racher and John Summerbell. The fresh legs and faster pace down the right side increased the pressure on the Rye defence and this forced the 2nd Boro goal from a melee in front of the Rye goal, Brett Patton making the score 2-0.

An evening kick off at 7:30pm saw the start of a fast paced game with The Sports having the majority of the attacking play in the first 15 minutes. The home side attacked again, and again, but without success. Kevin Barden and Reece Appleton both hit the woodwork before Robert Holbourn delivered an in swinging corner from the left and Brett Patton almost broke the deadlock. Shots on the Boro goal were few and far between and Oliver Barton picked them off easily. Robert Holbourn outpaced his marker and appeared to have his heel clipped as he crumpled on his way towards goal. The referee's view of this was that Rob dived and he was booked.
Against the run of play Town took the lead with an excellent strike from distance and fell further behind on 35 minutes when the Town players chased down a ball to Oliver Barton and bundled it in.
The home sides character became apparent as in the 2nd half they again opened up with an attacking onslaught on the Town goal and within 10 minutes of the restart Brett Patton completed a good move to pull a goal back for Boro. Town responded well forcing Boro back into their own half but Boro's defence of Michael Ridgeway, Dan Low, Josh Flaherty and James Curry broke up their attacks. John Summerbell then broke free from midfield and forced his way into the box and scored, Boro were level.
Shortly after Rob Holbourn delivered the ball into the Town box from a corner and John Summerbell headed it past the keeper, Boro were now in front at 3-2.
Substitutions for both teams came thick and fast and The Sports took off their wingers Robert Holbourn and Brett Patton replacing them with Andrew Ghammache and Ethen Strevett, the goal scorer John Summerbell was also replaced by Aaron Fox The subs new legs kept Town at bay, but the last twenty minutes were tense and to their credit Town fought Boro to the final whistle.

The first away game for Boro involved a long coach trip. With delays due to heavy traffic this meant arriving late and having little time to warm up. Many parents and supporters from Eastbourne turned up to support the boys in this FA Youth Cup game. Looking forward to a performance like that of a few nights before against Eastbourne Town. Noticeably the game started with Boro seeming slower to the ball. We had chances to score in the first half but could not put them away. At the end of a physical first half the score was 0-0. The second half kicked off with the captain H McCarthy being replaced due to injury by Ethen Strevett. Ten minutes into the half and a Croydon striker received the ball and sped forward flanked by two Boro defenders. Under pressure he bundled a lob over the Boro keeper. 1-0 down. Croydon got a second ten minutes later. At 2-0 down and with three quarters of the game gone Josh Flaherty went down injured and the time for further substitutions had arrived. Josh was replaced by Dean Brooks and Brett Patton made way for Jack Morton. To their credit Boro played to the whistle pushing forward in an attempt to redress the difference but unfortunately without success. On the night the best team won.

Away .v. Selsey
|
W 7-0
|
|
An 11:00am start on a bright and sunny Sunday morning saw a well organised and well turned out Boro team start against Selsey. Mondays defeat against Croyden was not going to stop Boro today. The first 15 minutes was a continuous push forward by the Boro players resulting in an opening headed goal for Reece Appleton(10), the opposition was still enthusiastic at this point, but James Currey(3) soon put paid to that with a run in from the left followed by a goal. This put a smile on the face of the small band of hardy Boro supporters that had travelled down to watch the game. Perhaps the best goal of the first half was Kevin Borden(9), receiving the ball in front of goal , performing a sharp turn against a defender and drilling the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal. The score line 3-0 to Boro at Half time.
Boro kicked off the second half at the same fast pace against a wilting Selsey side. Boro's players were now enthusiastically roaming across the pitch and in a short time Kevin Borden(9), and James Currey(3), had scored again. Two subs were now bought on John Summerbell(7) and Ethen Strevett(12), for H McCarthy and Aaron Fox (15). Within a short while Ethen had scored for Boro. The score now stood at 6-0, with Selsey looking downhearted. But Boro were not finished and Reece Appleton(10), ran through the Selsey defence and passed a ball across the goal to Kevin Borden(9) for him to score and complete his hat trick. At 7-0 the whistle blew in a game that could have been 10-0.
Team: Oliver Barton(1), Michael Ridgeway(2), James Currey(3), Dan Low(4), Josh Flaherty(5), H McCarthy(6) Captain, Aaron Fox (15), Kevin Borden(9), Reece Appleton(10), Dan Low(4), Michael Racher(8). Subs: Brett Putton(8), Robert Holbourn(11), Ethen Strevett(12),Luke Perry(16), John Summerbell(7).

Home .v. Hailsham Town
|
W 7-0

|
A smart Eastbourne Borough U18's turned out for an 11:00am start on a bright and sunny Sunday morning at the Priory Lane stadium in Langney. The game started with Boro pushing into Hailsham's half and pressuring the goal. Hailsham defended deep and were caught after about 10 mins by Robert Holbourn(11), running from the left midfield off of a good pass by Ethen Strevett(12), caught by his speed he was brought down by the last defender in front of the referee who immediately signaled a penalty. The captain, H McCarthy(6) placed the ball and blasted it into the top corner, one up to Boro. The game became quicker as spaces opened up for the Boro players and left back Josh Flaherty(5), ran at the defenders and threaded his way into a shooting position and promptly let fly for Boro's second goal. Shortly after the re-start Robert Holbourn(11) attacked again running at and through the Hailsham defence he scored the third goal. Robert Holbourn(11), injured in the first attacked now called to be taken off and was replaced by Brett Patton(8). Now the Boro team spread out and started to use the whole pitch this stretched the already battered defence and the right back Dan Low(4) took his chance to come into play and scored. Half time came as a relief to Hailsham who went in four down. The second half started with a more attacking Hailsham side with keeper Oliver Barton(1), being called into action. But a real forwards goal from Kevin Barden(9) unsettled them again and good cross-field play led to Brett Patton(8) coming in from the left to score number six. Boro maintained their momentum with, H McCarthy(6) Captain being replaced by John Summerbell(7) and Lloyd Stevens being replaced by Dean Brooks. The Boro team attacked again and again from open play and set pieces and Kevin Barden(9) finished off with a final goal giving a final score line of 7-0 to Boro. The crowd in the stand clapped the happy players and staff off after an enjoyable game.

Away .v. Haywards Heath Twn
|
D 3-3 (W 5-4 pen)
|
|
The game kicked off promptly with Boro attacking the Hayward's Heath goal about once every five minutes. Shots by Boro players were high, wide, and straight at the keeper. Then almost out of nothing, about 15 minutes from half time, a Hayward's Heath player broke forward ran at the Boro goal, and, from the resulting confusion, and by sheer persistence scored. A gloomy looking Boro went into the dressing room at half time. The second half started at the same pace and with a touch more commitment by both sides. Reece Appleton broke from the middle swept across the right turned in and volleyed, the keeper missed the ball and a defender on the line stopped the goal with his hand. The resulting disputed decision led to the defender being shown the red card, and for a suspected punch the Boro captain H McCarthy was also shown the red card. Jack Morton took on the Captains arm-band and scored from the spot. One-all and both teams were down to ten men. The game now sparked into life with attacks by both sides being thwarted by the respective defences. The Boro keeper Oliver Barton, was tricked by a long throw from the sideline by a Hayward's Heath player and it was two-one to them. But Boro attacked relentlessly and ultimately Reece Appleton(, beat the defence to make it two all. Subs were now brought on with John Summerbell, Josh Flaherty, and Michael Ridgeway coming on and Brett Patton, Luke Perry, and Lloyd Stevens coming off. Full time and a 2-2 draw meant extra time. At the restart Boro played the better and John Summerbell scored to make it 3-2 to Boro. Sadly the Haywards Heath Keeper damaged his knee on kicking out and collapsed in agony. There was a substantial delay while he was attended to and removed from the pitch, and shortly after the re-start Haywards Heath scored making it 3-3 at full time. It had come to penalties. Boro started the poorer missing their first shot and in total missing three penalties but Oliver Barton quite literally "saved the day" and after what seemed a long time Hayward's Heath were defeated 5-4 by Boro. Boro's first, hard fought away win, ended with a jubilant pile of players on top of the keeper.

Home .v. Bexhill Utd
|
W 6-1
|
|
On a bright and sunny Sunday morning at the Priory Lane stadium in Langney Eastbourne Borough U18's turned out for an 11:00am start. The Boro started with attacking play against Bexhill, the game being mostly in Bexhills half. Bexhill defended well and Boro were caught after about 15 mins by a long central ball to a fast and agile Bexhill forward, one nil to Bexhill. A lethargic Boro now needed to wake up. Play speeded up, a run at the Bexhill goal resulted in a Boro player being brought down and a free kick given, the ball rebounded of the keeper and Kevin Bardon pounced making it evens. The attacking play had to pay off and shortly before half time Jack Morton made it two one. For a while after the re-start Boro faced a determined Bexhill and some good defending was needed to hold Boros position. The referee doing a good job at keeping the game in hand awarded free kicks for infringements by both sides that were taken to no effect. A corner placed Bexhill under pressure, and a good cross was met by Josh Flahertys head and it was three one to Boro. Shortly after Ryan Hirooka received the ball shouldered his way past defenders and ran at the goal accompanied by a determined defender a smart shot made it four one. Now play opened up and John Summerbell struck from midfield, five one. Both sides now brought on subs with Boro replacing Jack Morton, Luke Perry, James Curry and with Brett Patton, Lloyd Stevens and Robert Holbourn. The manager switched the positions of the on field team putting Ethen Strevett up front and this resulted in a skillful run at the Bexhill goal by Ethen and a good finish giving a final score of six-one to Boro

As local derbies go this was always going to be a tough game for Borough, as some of United squad had been released by Borough in pre season. A fast paced game with Boro having the majority of the attacking play in the first 20 minutes creating three good scoring chances which were not taken. United then took the lead when the ball was lost in midfield a good pass forward was taken by a United player and he placed his shot wide of the keeper. Boro scored an equaliser on the stroke of half time, a long ball up field from goal keeper Oliver Barton was latched onto by Ryan Hirooka , who went around the last defender and finished coolly past the keeper.
Borough made a tactical substitution at half time which paid dividends when after a good team passing move was finished off by James Curry. Borough played the last 15 minutes with 10 men after losing Dan Law with a ankle injury, having used all their subs. The final 15 minutes showed what great team spirit the Borough lads have developed this season after a spirited display from United in a very sporting game.

Eastbourne Borough played their last local derby of the season at the oval on Sunday. Having beaten United 3 –2 at home we knew it would be a close game. Borough chose to play against the strong wind in the first half. For the first 35 minutes Utd had the majority of the possession without really creating any clear cut chances. After 38 minutes Borough scored, with a fine pass from Rob Holbourn which found Ethan Strevett who finished it confidently.
The second half was always going to be hard for United playing into the strong wind, Borough played some fine passing football and created numerous chances without scoring. With about 15 minutes left Borough scored their second goal - another good cross from Holbourn found Michael Racher who side footed it home.
A well contested game played in very windy conditions and played in a sporting manner.

Borough under 18's travelled to Sidley for their first meeting of the season. Borough started the game playing up the slope and into the wind. Borough got off to a very determined start and Kevin Barden charged down a clearance to tuck away the first goal after 5 minutes. Then Simon Johnson scored his first goal for the under 18's to make the score 2 – 0 to Borough at half time.
Borough came out for the second half and played some of their best football of the season. A third goal was scored by James Curry and Michael Racher then added a fourth. Borough then gave Sidley a ray of hope when Dean Brooks mistimed a tackle and gave away a penalty that was put just out of reach of keeper Oli Barton. From the kick off Borough went straight up the other end and got a penalty of their own which was put away by Brett Patton. The final goal of the game was scored by Ethan Strevett. A fine win for Borough in which Max Barnard made his first appearance.

|
W 5-3 aet
|
|
Priory Lane welcomed Horsham Youth this morning (Sunday the 29th) as they and Eastbourne Borough U18's played-off for the right to contest the league title with Southwick.
Ryan Hirooka opened the scoring after only 3 minutes, racing onto a long clearance from Ollie Barton and finishing well. Boro dominance was unfortunately not converted into further goals. Dean Brooks hit the bar with an excellent header from a left wing corner and Josh Flaherty struck the outside of the keepers right –hand post with a stinging shot. Boro were made to pay for their wasteful ways and excellent work from the Horsham strikers saw the away side equalise as a snap shot bounced just in front of Barton and into the net with the keeper stranded. Half-time 1-1.
In the 2nd half Boro tried to force the home advantage and re-took the lead after 5 minutes through Flaherty after a Brooks free-kick. Horsham's keeper made a string of excellent saves to keep his side in the match but the lead was increased as Kevin Barden, replacing Hirooka, raced clear and rounded the keeper to slot home with a cool finish. With the score 3-1 it appeared 'The Sports' were on their way to the final. However Horsham had other ideas and battled back with 2 goals in quick succession to level the score at 3-3 with 20 minutes still to play. The final phase of normal time saw both sides battling for dominance but neither were able to force a meaningful opening and extra-time was required.
Substitute Simon Johnson replaced James Curry and after some good control in the 18 yard box fired past the Horsham keeper to put the home side back in front at 4-3 and in the 2nd period Barden scored his 2nd of the match, side footing a Brooks header into the net.
