Match Report:

|
Allan Tait started for The Sports in the only change to the last league fixture; the draw away at Bath City.
Thurrock came to Priory Lane with an excellent recent history and the visitors made most of the running in the 1st 45 minutes, working hard to close Boro down but also producing opportunities to take the lead. Committed Boro defending was required on several occasions before 2 missed headed opportunities, 1 saved by Lee Hook and the other just wide of the post by Rob Swaine. 2 half chances for Tait were all Boro could produce before the referee blew to provide Garry Wilson the chance to provide words of instruction and encouragement to the home side.
Paul Armstrong had a glorious opportunity to open the scoring on 46 minutes. Andy Atkin provided an excellent deep cross that Matt Crabb turned back across the goal, but as the ball dropped to the captain his effort was high from 7 yards. Atkin forced David Blackmore into a couple of easy saves with headers on target but the keeper earned his wages with a low punch to deny Matt Crabb from a free-kick and punched over from Ben Austins excellent long range drive.
On 77 minutes the points were sealed when Tait stuck a low shot into the bottom corner of the goal and could have extended the lead when Blackmore again kept his side in the game; saving when 1 on 1 with the Boro No.9. The 90 minutes were played out with no further clear cut chances and Boro were happy to have won a tricky game against an improving side who were certainly 1 of the best to have visited Priory Lane this season.
