Match Report:
|
|
Recent seasons have seen Boro return happy indeed from Thurrock FC; including a fantastic play-off win in 2005. For this fixture the well documented injury crisis at Priory Lane saw Adam Wilde return to the starting line-up.
The hosts started brightly with Rob Swaine and match-winner Che Stadhart going close in the opening 10 minutes. Boro’s opening opportunity fell to Matt Crabb and his excellent low drive was deflected and saved brilliantly by David Blackmore in the Thurrock goal. ‘The Fleet’ were back on the offensive and only Lee Hook and committed defending kept the score at 0-0; Greg Lincoln and Stadhart particularly threatening.
As Boro worked their way back into the match Andy Atkin opened the scoring. A Paul Armstrong free-kick led to the No 9. looping a fine header over Blackmore from 12 yards for 1-0. The lead would not last however as David Bryant smashed the ball into the roof of Hooks net as a corner was not cleared on 40 minutes.
The 2nd half started with Boro regaining the lead. Adam Wilde worked his way to the bye-line and was brought down by a crude challenge, Mr Summer and the assistant agreeing on a penalty. Paul Armstrong buried the pen with his usual aplomb for 2-1 Boro. Again the hosts struck back quickly. This time the fixtures 2nd penalty saw Lincoln equalise after Darren Budd was penalised for a challenge in the area.
The game was now anyone’s for the taking; Matt Bodkin threatened for Thurrock and the hosts certainly had more possession and threat. Stadhart hit the woodwork on 66 minutes and Boro cleared off the line before he finally claimed all 3 points when he finished from inside the 18 yard box on 73 minutes.
This shock finally woke the visitors and the rest of the game belonged to Boro. Ben Austin was inches wide, Jenkins lobbed onto the bar with 5 minutes to go and in injury time Wilde finally beat Blackmore before Kenny Clark cleared off the line.
The atmosphere home from this part of Essex was not as good as in recent times.
