Match Report:

Eastbourne Borough returned to league action after the Trophy defeat and welcomed Newport County to Priory Lane; the visitors having completed the long trip from South Wales supported in admiral number. Matt Smart and Marc Pullan returned to the starting XI and played full part in this most entertaining of 0-0 draws.
Boro had an excellent 1st half with some intricate passing movements on a fine surface. Scott Ramsay had 2 early opportunities and Neil Jenkins caused panic in The Exiles defence with a fine left-wing delivery before the visitors mounted their 1st attack on 13 minutes with a corner. Allan Tait fired past the near post after a lightning paced break from deep and Jason Bowen weaved his way through the Boro side only to shoot weakly past Lee Hooks left-hand post on 34 minutes. The last chance of the half fell to Boro when Hooks huge drop-kick evaded the County defence only for Glyn Thompson to rush to the edge of his area to deny Tait a clear shot on goal.
Boro started the 2nd half as they finished the 1st; on the attack. Only committed defending from Thompson and Ntahan davies deny The Sports on 54 minutes with Jay Lovetts effort palmed away and the follow up blocked at point blank by the County No.4. Jenkins continued his impressive game for Boro with a fine delivery that almost reached Lovett and a wonderful pass to Tait that saw the No 10’s effort on target but gathered by Thompson. The match flowed from end to end in the final 15 minutes with both sides making positive substitutions in an attempt to snatch all 3 points.
The evening ended with the crowd drifting home faced with dramatically different journeys. No doubt those faced with the trip down the M4 were happier with the point. Those with the short trip across town were likely to be reflecting on an excellent performance where just the final ball or finishing touch were missing. Match Details - Webmaster.
