Eastbourne Borough made the long trip to South Wales and handed a start to Ross Trelevan, Evan Archibald dropping to the bench. Neil Jenkins returned to the starting 11 as the club started to add injured/suspended players back into the squad.
Boro had the conditions in their favour for the 1st 45 minutes but found themselves a goal behind on 26 minutes as Andy Gurney fired low past Lee Hook and in off the post for 1-0 ‘The Exiles’. Boro started to force their way back into the game but had the good fortune to see an effort cannon off the bar and the referee disallow a finish for foul on ‘Hooky’. Boro were not without chances; Pat Harding testing Thompson in the 6 yard box after work from Treleavan, Searle clearing off the line.
in the 2nd half despite the home sides greater experience it was the young Boro side making the most chances. Harding again went close with a superb volley that Thompson pushed wide of the post. Paul Armstrong, Andy Ballard both had efforts from the edge of the area and soon after the introduction of Evan Archibald and Matt Crabb Boro scored a deserved equliser when a Harding cross was headed home wonderfully by the diminutive elder Crabb brother.
The home side pressed for a winner in the closing stages as manager Beadle sent on giant strikers Jermaine Clarke and Julian Alsop but the Boro defence held firm. Hughes fired wide and in the 80th minute Hook saved superbly from Alsop,. Moments later Clarke headed wide when well placed but Boro secured a deserved point with a batlling display
