Match Report:

Eastbourne Borough finally claimed all 3 points in a turbulent fixture at Priory Lane. The home side created several chances both before and after The Magpies were reduced to 9 men in the 2nd half, but were forced to settle for a single goal victory that none the less earned all 3 points.
Ex-Sport Lee Newman started on the bench for the visitors and Andy Ballard made his debut; in for Neil Jenkins. Scott Ramsay was in the mood to catch Andy Atkins early season pace in the scoring charts and on 3 minutes he forced Francisco Ramos to palm the ball behind for a corner. On 11 minutes Carl Wilson-Denis showed excellent control to chest-and-turn; only for the shot to flash across the home goal mouth. Indeed the visitors were the brightest early on but Bobby Behadzi’s poor clearance fell to Matt Crabb on 15 minutes and Ramsay buried the near-post cross at the 2nd attempt.
3 minutes later the visitors were level. The ball eventually dropped to Darthaniel Brown and he slammed the ball home from just inside the box to level the scores. Boro went on to create several half-chances; notably for Pat Harding, Ballard, Ramsay, and Crabb; with the visitors playing well on the break, Errol Telemacque a constant threat.
At half-time Telemacque was replaced by David Clarke but on 46 minutes Ramsay (above left, receiving congratulations from Armstrong, Atkin and Smart) made the decisive strike of the fixture as he picked himself up after a crude aerial challenge by Ryan Johnson to strike a penalty past Ramos, 2-1 Boro. Further Boro pressure led to chances for Harding and Crabb, as Maidenhead struggled to get back into the game. Newman provided fresh Magpie impetus and Matt Smart’s low shot on 75 minutes almost opened his account for The Sports.
On 78 minutes Clarke was sent off for what appeared to be spitting incident and Brown followed for a 2nd yellow in the aftermath; the numerical advantage and fresh legs then allowed Boro to close out the game without any real threats.
