Match Report:
|
|
Andy Ballard started at centre back for the suspended Darren Baker, Allan Tait and Darren Budd returning to the squad on the bench, Robbie Kember (left) maintained his position in midfield. The strong Priory Lane wind was at Boro’s back and the side made the most of the advantage, Fisher rarely leaving their half.
In the 6th minute a long Ballard throw reached Andy Atkin who headed past Simon Overland for 1-0. Andre McCollin ran at the home defence, and Wes Thomas was lively as always, but Boro were denied 2 clear penalties in the opening half. The 1st for handball and the 2nd as Atkin headed against the post Overland was very late; the Boro. 9 left prostrate. Fisher then self-destructed as Kieran Murtagh and McCollin completed double yellows for late tackles and receiving red cards on 36 and 40 minutes respectively. Boro pushed for a 2nd goal in the remaining minutes of the half but despite constant pressure could not force the ball home.
Boro went straight onto the attack with Atkin and Matt Crabb denied by a wonderful save and brave defensive block. Fisher almost equalised as Boro failed to clear a corner but onj 65 minutes substitute Nathan Crabb settled home nerves hooking home a Scott Ramsay nod down for 2-0.
’The Sports’ continued to dominate and on 74 minutes volleyed home for 3-0 as Overland could only parry a matt Crabb strike. Fisher ventured out of their half only once as Thomas slid the ball wide of Lee Hooks goal and MOM Andy Ballard capped off his performance with a headed goal on 90 minutes.
After 2 defeats Boro needed a result today and with strong opposition and difficult weather conditions this could have been a banana skin. Ultimately Fisher aided Boro with their ‘hot heads’ but the result sees the club resume it’s challenge at the top of the table.
