Match Report:

Garry and Nick fielded a strong side for this final away pre season fixture with Jay Lovett making a welcome return to the side following injury at right-back. Dover are managed by Kent football legend Andy Hessenthaler and hopes and expectations are high at The Crabble for a successful season.

The 1st 10 minutes were a fairly even affair with neither side creating clear opportunities to score. However as the half wore on Boro began to get the upper hand. Adam Wilde delivered a deep cross on 24 minutes for Ramsay to head back across the 6 yard box. This was met by Andy Atkin only for the Dover keeper to make an excellent reaction save. Paul Armstrong was back in his central midfield berth and his combination with Ramsay allowed Pat Harding to fire a 22 yard effort just past the keepers near post. As the pressure on the home defence built it was a fantastic goal from Atkin to open the scoring. Boro players combined well in the right hand midfield that resulted in an excellent ‘chip’ over the centre back for Andy to run onto. He got in front of the last man and from the 18 yard line fired a left foot shot across the keeper and in off the right hand post. 1-0 The Sports.

The 2nd half saw Boro continue their dominance with early opportunities to extend their lead. Wilde fired just wide twice, triallist Darren Baxter had a goal bound ‘poke’ cleared off the line and Jay lifted a long range ‘lob’ onto the top of the bar. For all the pressure Dover were by no means out of the game and had an early chance to equalise, Marc Pullan making a desperate header to clear a goal bound effort. on 55 minutes Dover again delivered an excellent right-wing cross but this time the ball was too strong and the ball drifted out to safety. From 65 minutes the game saw the customary rash of substitutions but Boro continued to have the majority of the possession and opportunities. On 70 minutes Lovett delivered a pin-point cross for Pat Harding to head home the 2nd of the night from centre-forward and seal the win for Boro. Adam Laudon was required to make a save at the feet of a Dover striker but their was little pressure on The Sports goal and the match finished 2-0 to the visitors.
