Match Report:

Following a short enforced weather break and a long fruitless journey to Somerset the previous Saturday Boro looked to maintain the momentum of the season against old foes Dorchester Town. Nathan Crabb was provided a starting position after his hat-trick .v. Whitehawk in the Sussex Senior Cup, his brother restored to his usual left-wing berth.

Boro started very brightly and on 2 minutes Paul Armstrong set Nathan Crabb away down the right-wing and his low cross; on it’s way to Andy Atkin; was cleared for a corner. Matt Crabb’s delivery found his brother beyond the far post and his fierce shot was deflected goal wards by Darren Budd’s clever header that eluded Simon Evans for 1-0.

In the minutes before Jon Docker’s 26th minute wild effort that went out for a throw-in Boro had opportunities for Nathan Crabb and Andy Atkin to extend the lead; and Paul Armstrong drew an excellent near post save with a 1st time volley. Armstrong closed an excellent 1st 45 for the home side when he latched onto a clever ball from Jay Lovett, took a touch and lashed his shot against the post.

Dorchester displayed energy throughout the 90 minutes and continued to play neat attractive football that whilst attractive had very little cutting edge. 2 substitutions were made for ‘The Magpies’ at half-time in an attempt to pull the goal back but Boro started as they had finished the 1st half; committed defending blocking Armstrong and Matt Crabb shots, but Nathan Crabb capped an M-O-M performance when he capitalised on a defensive mistake. Under gentle pressure from Crabb Jr. Roy O’Brien slipped when attempting a back-pass to Evans on 51 minutes. Nathan pounced on the short ball and cleverly chipped the ball over the advancing keeper for 2-0.

Following this set-back Dorchester Town began to have more success and finally applied some real pressure to Lee Hooks goal but just after the hour Boro made it 3 when Nathan sprinted clear for Evans to save; Atkin following up and turning the rebound into the net to cap a hardworking performance.

Dorchester continued to press and as the Boro defence switched off momentarily Jones Awauh turned a left-wing corner home at the near post for a consolation goal. The pressure continued to mount on the home goal; possibly the visitors full-time fitness telling against the enforced break Boro have suffered recently; and if Awauh had dropped his lob inches lower on 79 minutes rather than onto the bar a grandstand finish may have ensued. On 86 minutes Dominic Douglas replaced Nathan and the defender played a 1-2 with Darren Budd on the edge of the 18 yard box, rounded Evans and finished cooly into the roof of the net for 4-1; his 1st of the club.
