‘The Sports’ travelled to Dorchester Town, historically a difficult trip, after last weeks 1st away defeat of the season. Nathan Crabb dropped to the bench and Scott Ramsay partnered Andy Atkin up front.

The Magpies were on the receiving end of a 4-1 defeat at Priory Lane only a few short weeks ago and started brightly at the recently named Jewson Stadium; Lee Hook saving magnificently, but unnecessarily from the lively Jones Awuah, the referee awarding Boro a free-kick on 6 minutes. Boro began to get into their stride and on the quarter of the hour mark the visitors opened the scoring. A Matt Crabb right-wing corner was headed powerfully goal ward by Atkin; Martin Horsell on his home debut saving but only parrying the ball to Darren Budd (pictured below right) who fired home from close range.
Dorchester forced Boro into a goal-mouth scrambled clearance and wasted another chance on 20 minutes when heading wide as the off-side trap was sprung. Having withstood a mini spell of pressure Boro extended their lead on 23 minutes. Neil Jenkins delivered a ball high into the 6-yard box. With many, including his own back-four, expecting Horsell to claim the delivery he hesitated; or lost the ball in the bright winter sun; and Atkin (pictured below) stole in to head neatly home for 2-0.
The half ended with Atkin narrowly beaten to a long through ball and Pat Harding driving a fierce effort towards the top right-hand corner; Horsell fumbling the ball out for a corner.
The 2nd 45 minutes started as the 1st ended with ‘The Sports’ on the attack, Budd angling a clever shot across the face of the Dorchester goal that was inches high and wide. Mark Jermyn again wasted an opportunity to open the home sides account with an unchallenged header again knocked wide and as in the 1st 45 Boro made the home side pay with a further score. Jenkins turned Jamie Cumming inside out, twice, before delivering a low cross into the 6-yard area that Harding met 1st time; his drive leaving Horsell no chance and the score now read 3-0 Boro.
Substitute Tom Clark forced Hook into a wonderful tip over the bar as his long-range effort was dipping in but that was all the home side could offer. Atkin attempted his own long distance effort; the shot wide, and Ramsay’s clever and controlled side foot effort was saved well by the keeper but on 75 the inevitable 4th arrived. Crabb delivered another excellent right-wing corner and Jenkins rounded off a fine display with a near post header for 4-0.
Boro still had chances to score again; Atkin delaying a pass to Adam Wilde allowing the chance to pass and an excellent Wilde cross was driven against the up-right, but the large Boro following in the 439 crowd, the smallest any at Boro can remember, left at the final whistle glad to be back to winning ways on the road.
