Match Report:

In a competitive FA 4th Round qualifying fixture Eastbourne Borough progressed to face non-league opposition in the 1st Round. The Sports had won away just weeks previously but it was a different side that arrived from Kent and the win was hard earned.
The home side started brightly and the Bromley defence appeared hesitant but Boro were unable to capitalise on early pressure. Bromley’s 1st chance to test Lee Hook came on 15 minutes but Danny Hockton could not control his effort after a quick break, a feature of their play throughout. Scott Ramsay’s looping effort forced Andy Walker to claw the ball away before Boro took the lead on 26 minutes. Boro played some superb passing football from left to right before Andy Atkin met a perfect near-post right wing cross to head the opening goal. Bromley tested Hook who was forced into an excellent save and moments later Peter Adeniyi should have scored when 7 yards out, his effort high.
Bromley brought on Gareth McCleary at half-time but Boro maintained the pressure with half-chances for Atkin and Ramsay. Bromley brought a double save from Hook on 51 minutes as the match swung from end to end. On 55 minutes the Bromley sub made his mark; a long free-kick found it’s way to McClearey who raced onto the ball and squeezed the ball past Hook for 1-1.
On 57 minutes ex Sport Mark Corneille received his 2nd yellow and Bromley spent most of the game defending the 1-1 scoreline. They appeared to have achieved this with deep committed defending that the home side struggled to break down. Wilson and Greenwood brought on Nathan Crabb and Darren Budd in an attempt to change the game and the tactic worked with the home side drawing saves from Walker to keep his side in the tie. Bromley looked to have held on until Darren Baker was upended chasing a ball away from goal in the Bromley box and MOM Paul Armstrong buried the penalty with 4 minutes remaining.
