Match Report:

Boro old boy Scott Chamberlain returned to Priory Lane for this ‘League Cup’ tie with ‘The Rocks’ hoping to help his side earn a home fixture .v. Lewes in the next round. It never looked likely !

‘The Sports’ flew at Bognor from the off and Darren Budd, who traveled the other way from West to East Sussex, fired over after only 4 minutes. 2 minutes later Budd, playing in central midfield, fed Nathan Crabb who’s shot was saved by Craig Stoner. The save was not held and Allan Tait finished for the opening goal of the evening. The Boro No.9 was obviously happy to have put his injury and fitness issues behind him as just 60 seconds later he notched his 2nd, firing high across Stoner for 2-0.

Boro were almost totally dominant. Bognor displayed their trademark passing from the back and in the midfield but there was very little end product. Adam Wilde, Nathan Crabb, Andy Atkin and Tait all had further chances to extend the lead, Stoner making a fine save to deny Tait his hat-trick on 45 minutes, but ‘The Rocks’ were limited to a half-chance on the half-hour mark.

Both sides made substitutions at half-time and Paul Armstrong shot wide after 51 minutes following an Atkin cut-back. Lee Hook was called into action for the 1st time a moment later; saving low to his left but the home side extended their lead on 65. Ben Austin was allowed time and space to play a fine pass into the right-wing channel where Armstrong met the low ball 1st time to beat Stoner at the near post. Tait continued to threaten, as did Crabb and Scott Ramsay and Bognor had 2 late chances; Chamberlain firing wide in the final minute but in truth the result was never in doubt after the opening exchanges as the club returned to winning ways..
