Match Summary:-
Fine weather but a strong wind welcomed Bishop's Stortford to Priory Lane, and the home side, kicking with the wind, had an early opportunity with Ben Austin shooting straight at Andy Young in the 1st minute. Bishop's Stortford are having a fine season and they responded with an immediate chance to test Lee Hook but Jason Mason shot high from close range. Neil Jenkins supplied a ball across the 18 yard area, Jay Lovett's effort low to the left hand post looked to trouble Young but was wide for a goal kick. Austin earned himself M-O-M with strength in defence and a series of well timed tackles to prevent shots on Hooks goal. Lovett tested Young from long range on 17 minutes but the home pressure finally broke Bishop's Stortford on 45 minutes when Crabb delivered a fantastic left wing cross to be met with a diving, glancing header 7 yards out by Paul Armstrong. 1-0 at half-time.
Bishop's Stortford predictably came into the game more in the 2nd half but on 54 minutes Allan Tait showed strength to beat the last man and a cool head to round Young and score Boro's 2nd goal on 54 minutes. Moments later The Sports could have further extended the lead as Lovett and Armstrong combined to deliver a right wing cross only for Crabb and Tait to force point blank saves from Young. These events woke The Blues and the rest of the half saw sustained pressure on the Boro goal. Austin continued to make saving tackles and Hook made several fantastic saves to keep the visitors out but Ryan Lockett finally broke the resistance on 81 minutes with a wonderful volley from 35 yards. Bishop's Stortford threw everything forward but even with 5 minutes of extra time the equaliser would not come. 2-1 Eastbourne Borough the final score.
