Match Summary:- Bedford Town travelled to face an Eastbourne Borough squad impacted by injury. The Sports inflicted the 1st league defeat on league leaders Histon the previous Saturday with a midfield partnership of Andy Atkin and Joe Keehan and the 2 were rewarded for their excellent display with an opportunity to perform in front of their own fans. Talismanic defender and skipper Stuart Tuck had recently departed Priory Lane and he was replaced in the squad by Dominic Douglas from Sussex County League side Bexhill Town. Darren Baker, making his 700th appearance for the club, was presented with a memento prior to the game to mark his 14 year career at Priory Lane. It was however not to be Darren's or his clubs day.
Bedford had the 1st clear opportunity of the game and opened the scoring on 7 minutes. The ball was lost in the middle 3rd by the home side and Bedford broke quickly and despite Boro recovering ground Ian Draycott fired past Lee Hook. The home side fought their way into the match and dominated for long periods without creating real clear cut chances. Scott Ramsay and Allan Tait had opportunities to test Ian Brown, and Neil Jenkins had a goal chalked off for offside. Bedford extended their lead on 26 minutes when Hook pushed a close range shot onto the post only for Draycott to grab his 2nd. Baker left the filed on 36minutes with blood pouring from a wound after a clash of heads and he was replaced by Duncan McArthur.
The Sports made a further substitution at half-time, Douglas replacing Dohnal, and Boro changed to a 3-4-3 formation. Bedford again settled quickly and Aaran Cavill should have done better than his wild effort when free to shoot on 47 minutes. The home side then began a spell of midfield control with 2 long range efforts from Joe Keehan requiring brave blocks by the resolute Eagles defence. McArthur's 25yard effort was high on 51 minutes and Ramsay headed against the bar from a corner on 59. Bedford were defending well but had opportunities to extend their lead, and did so on 71 minutes in fine style. Scott Cross received the ball 30 yards out with Boro defenders in close attendance. He was strong and weaved his way into the penalty area before beating Hook low to his right. Boro pushed for a consolation but created very few clear cut chances in the final 20 minutes. 3-0 the final score and a happy journey home for the Eagles from Bedfordshire.
