Match Summary:-
The Sports completed the 3rd of 5 consecutive home games losing 2 points rather than gaining all 3. Both sides appeared to settle early but Boro went in front on 7 minutes. Adam Wilde beat 2 men wide left and curled a deep ball across the box. Jay Lovett volleyed 1st time and the ball struck the left hand post and in. 1-0 Boro. Basingstoke had chances of their own, Neville Roach making a nuisance of himself amongst the Boro defence, and Joe Dolan should have done better with a header from a corner on 14 minutes. On 32 minutes Paul Armstrong surged into the visitors penalty area and it appeared to all in the ground that he was brought down whilst preparing to shoot. The only man that counted however, the Referee, waived away the appeals. The Sports continued to play the better football against the wind with Pat Harding, Neil Jenkins, Adam Wilde, Jay Lovett and Scott Ramsay all working hard to get a 2nd goal. Jenkins curled a fantastic ball around the Basingstoke defence into the path of Harding. He delayed momentarily his shot and this allowed just enough time for the tackle to be made.

In the 2nd half Boro continued to press. Harding had an early opportunity but dragged his shot wide of the post. He almost turned provider on 68 minutes when he provided a superb cross from wide right across the 6 yard box but Ramsay was unable to reach and stab home. Ramsay, who had worked extremely hard all game, almost scored from within the centre circle but his shot was just too low and was grabbed by Stuart Searle whilst stretching. Smart had a strong run on 80 minutes that was finished by a low shot blocked by Searle. The rebound came to Wilde but his shot was deflected. Boro dominated the rest of the half but the sucker punch came in the 92nd minute. A right wing corner dropped at the far post and Ben Wright smashed the ball home for a share of the points for Basingstoke.
