Match Summary:-
The final away match of the standard season saw the club travel to Hampshire and The Camrose, home of Basingstoke Town FC. In the home fixture The Sports dominated and lost 2 points to a late, late equaliser in a 1-1 draw. Following 2 recent away defeats the squad approached the fixture with a determination to end their travels for 2006/2007 on a high note.

Basingstoke had the best of the early exchanges forcing a corner and shooting wide when well placed, however the comparative league positions began to be reflected in the balance of play as Boro began to run the match. On 10 minutes a cross from the right saw a 'Dragons' defender attempt a low header away. The execution was under pressure and the ball clearly struck his arm. The referee and assistants waved away low-key appeals from Boro players and fans. Pat Harding provided an excellent right wing cross on 23 minutes after some fierce pressure on the home left-back. His cross was blocked and fell to Scott Ramsay who chose to shoot across the face of the goal rather than cut the ball back to Allan Tait. Tait was unfortunate not to score on 30 minutes as he received the ball in the 'D' with his back to goal. His 1st touch and neat turn saw the ball rise nicely for him and his left foot volley slammed into the home crossbar and away. Boro continued to dominate but on 42 minutes Basingstoke wasted their best chance of the half as an excellent left wing corner was met with a firm header wide of Lee Hooks post. 0-0 the half-time score.

The 2nd half saw 'The Sports' kicking down hill and with the wind at their backs. Tait fed Ramsay on 50 minutes and the No.9 buried the ball into the bottom left hand corner. As celebrations started it was noted that Tait was adjudged offside as he received the ball and the score remained 0-0. On 51 minutes Jay Lovett, challenging in his own penalty area, crashed to the deck and his actions indicated he was in severe pain. Moments later Jay left the field to generous applause from all in the ground, and after attending a local hospital returned home with a diagnosed fractured collarbone. Best wishes are extended to Jay for a speedy recovery and a return to action next season.

Basingstoke wasted a further half chance as James Taylor shot wildly over from a corner when well placed, and on 57 minutes a flicked header from a free-kick needed Hook to palm the ball over when heading for the top corner. Boro increased their attacks as they adjusted to the enforced change in personnel and forced 4 corners in quick succession. Adam Wilde provide a cross on 65 minutes but his pace had taken him beyond the Boro strikers and the ball crossed the face of the goal and out for a free-kick. Tait and Ramsay combined well and Scott got in front of his man but elected to cross for Wilde rather than shoot, the Boro No.11 had strayed marginally offside.

0n 71 minutes Hook was again forced into an excellent save as Basingstoke attempted to beat him at his near post but with both sides attempting to claim all 3 points and Basingstoke desperate to ease relegation fears tackles started to stray outside the laws of the game. On 83 minutes James Taylor received a yellow card for what appeared a late challenge on Darren Baker where the big No.10 led with his arm and on 86 minutes he rashly repeated the action, this time receiving a straight red card. From the restart the ball reached Ben Austin at right-back. Tait beat the offside trap and with the home defence racing out had he plenty of time to receive the ball in the right-hand channel, cut inside and place the ball low past Searle for the winner. The Basingstoke No 12. received a yellow card for an extremely late tackle on Wilde but the added time was played out with no opportunities for either side and Boro had achieved what the set out for, all 3 points on the road for the last time this season
