Eastbourne Borough U18's played their 1st competitive game of the season at Priory Lane, and welcomed Folkestone Invicta to Priory Lane for this FA Youth Cup tie. A wise man once said, and said it again tonight, that 'Goals change games'. He probably also said 'You must take your chances when you get them'; and both these phrases applied to the game this evening.

MOM Darren Lok started brightly for 'The Sports', and after having a goalscoring opportunity denied with a late tackle in the opening minute he scored his 1st of the evening on 5 minutes; controlling well and volleying home past Alex Conyers for 1-0. Lok threatened to run riot in the opening 40 minutes; as did his team-mates, and Tristan Jarvis and Kieran Manning both shot wide or at Conyers in the opening 15 minutes before Lok scored his 2nd on 18 minutes; lobbing the keeper to emphasise Boro's dominance.

Simon Johnson continued to drive the side on and the visitors at time looked lost as to how to get a foothold in the game. The chance arrived in the 41st minutes when a short back-pass by Sam Stappleton allowed Warren Smith to drive past Adam Sargent for 2-1. Smith lifted a free-kick from the 18 yard box over the bar as Invicta grew in confidence and the 2nd half opened with Sargent forced into a low save.

On 52 minutes the comeback was complete for the visitors as the Boro back-four hestitated as a long-ball dropped between the back-line and the keeper. Jon Driscoll fired low across Sargent for 2-2; a scoreline that looked highly unlikely in the opening 40 minutes.

2 minutes later Liam Hark could have grabbed the lead for Folkestone but he shot weakly at the Boro No.1 before the lively Michael Lloyd delivered a fine low ball across the 'Invicta' box; Jarvis and Ben Jesson unable to apply a finish. Boro began to press for a 3rd as Johnson fired over, Lok was denied by brave keeping and the Folkestone defence scrambled clear on 65 minutes.

Folkestone were still in the tie and Driscoll's looping header forced Sargent to save before Lok was again denied by a fabulous last ditch challenge from Sam Henson; the goal at his mercy. Joe Bell flicked a clever header goalwards from a free-kick but Sargent was untroubled before Boro were reduced to 10 men; Mills receiving a 2nd yellow 3 minutes from time.

In the 1st half of extra-time Johnson bent a shot wide and Mr Lindsay turned down a decent penalty claim. The '2nd' half saw Folkestone hit the post as Boro's 10 men worked hard. The effort was finally rewarded when Lok fired a low drive into the bottom corner; Conyers finger-tips not enough to deflect the effort on 120 minutes. Jamie Strong had a couple of chances to extend the lead but Lok had got his side out of jail and 'The Sports' progressed into the next round.
