Barrow striker Richard
Brodie`s goal in 1st half time added on opened the scoring
for his side as they beat 'The Sports' to set up a 2nd
round FA Cup home tie with league side Brentford.
Brodie, on loan from York, proved to be the chief tormentor
and grabbed the opening goal on the stroke of half time
before Paul Brown smashed home a 25-yard screamer just
one minute into the 2nd period. Boro had dominated the
opening half without creating many clear cut chances but
found coming from 2 goals down and impossible task. Matt
Henney added a third in the 56th minute, heading home
unmarked, to condemn the travelling fans to early thoughts
of the long trip home and league survival.
Brodie was twice denied before breaking the deadlock.
His first effort shaved Lee Hook's crossbar before Mark
Pullan cleared his goalbound strike. When Carlos Logan
hit a long, hopeful ball forward, Baker and keeper Hook
collided and Brodie was on hand to gleefully roll the
ball home before Brown doubled the lead just after the
re-start with his 25-yard effort burying itself low into
Hooks net.
Logan added a fourth with a left-foot free-kick
from the right-wing which somehow found its way into the
bottom corner, Boro's misery complete.
No doubt all connected with Boro will be glad to see the
back of Cumbria, hopefully further competitions will not
see the side travelling back to Holker Street this season.
However, many at the game would not have seen a 4 goal
difference between the sides; but 'The Sports' must learn
to create and take chances or fixtures will always prove
difficult to win.
