Following Tuesday evenings humbling by
Stevenage Borough, The Sports had an early opportunity
to restore some confidence and pride as Kidderminster
Harriers rolled into town. That the target, but The Harriers
are a decent side on a good run of form, the home side
would need to be at their best to come away from a home
game with anything; the home crowd need have no fear as
their side would show passion, pride and belief in an
entertaining 0-0 draw.
With Garry Wilson and Nick Greenwood no
doubt looking for a reaction Boro had a flying start,
neil jenkins, Jamie Taylor and Loam Enver-Marum all with
chances in the 1st 5 minutes. How would Danny Knowles
react after picking 6 goals out of his goal; superbly
as between 15 and 20 minutes on the clock he made 2 1-on-1
saves to keep the scores level.
Boro continued to press but a re-organisation
at the back as Marc Pullan was replaced by Ollie Rowe
saw The Harriers force 2 goal line clearances; Knowles
and Ben Austin keeping the ball clear of the net just
prior to half-time.
Adam Boyes struck the woodwork before
Matt Crabb did the same, great control from a Joe Benjamin
cross creating the chance. The woodwork again saved Boro
as a 'Red Head' deflected a shot from distance onto the
post. 'Crabby' tested the frame from a free-kick on 71
minutes before Brain Smikle drove wide moments later.
The chances became few and far between
as the game drew to a close but Dean Bennett almost claimed
all 3 points for his side as his great effort from 25+
yards smashed against the frame in time added on.
The side had in the space of 8 days faced
3 teams in the top 8; one following a long road trip.
They claimed 4 points from 9 and without ignoring the
last half-hour .v. Stevenage Boro the 2 Saturday performances
auger well for the relegation scrap. The pleasing crowd
number also an indication of the 'majority' support for
the players and management.
