This website has reported
several late goals against Boro this season, all have
cost The Sports points. This fixture again ended with
an added time goal but to many in the crowd it appeared
as if Gary Elphick was 'pushed' onto the ball - the award
and conversion of the resultant penalty by Steve Basham
a bitter pill to swallow as the 1st win in 10 was just
seconds away.
Gary Elphick and Jamie
Taylor came into the starting X1 and Boro found them selves
in front after on 8 minutes when a fabulous sweeping pass
from Joe Benjamin found Taylor; his shot arcing into the
bottom corner of the net for 1-0; JT booked for his celebration.
Boro dominated the opening
half and only an early Sean Canham effort threatened.
In the 2nd 45 the hosts
started brightly with Danny Knowles saving a low shot
a minute in. Taylor would prove a real thorn for 'United';
his header across goal from an acute angle and another
header just wide from a Simon Johnson delivery his best
openings. Liam Enver-Marum had a good game but his delay
in getting a shot away allowed him to be forced wide just
after the hour.
Danny Knowles was not
seriously tested, although the hosts did press strongly
for the equaliser before the late 'drama' of an undeserved
equaliser again left Boro players and fans to travel home
feeling 'robbed'
